Street tumults have been continuing in Tehran for several
days already. Students are the principal force. The powers
carried out a series of arrests, but no desirable effect being
obtained. The acts of protest are going on. The events occurring
in the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran being far from
the situation which took place twenty four years ago when
revolution was on the verge of outbreak still have one common
feature with that disorderly time: these are students again
who protest; intellectuals joining them.
The question arises: in whose hands will today’s disorders
be playing - will it be the present regime which may enjoy
carte blanche for broad reprisals in the country or the United
States which doesn’t conceal its plans on replacement of the
dictatorial regime in Iran?
It is common knowledge that the USA refers Iran to the countries
included into the so-called “axis of the evil”, among them
there was Saddam Husein’s regime in Iraq in the opinion of
president Bush, North Korea proceeding with nuclear weapon
elaboration is also reckoned as such. Washington declared
long ago that until Iraq and Northern Korea give up their
nuclear programs it is not going to collaborate with them.
Moreover, these countries will be made to produce evidence
of using nuclear stuffs for peaceful purposes. Though Iran
is a participant of the Convention on non-proliferation of
nuclear weapon it refuses persistently to sign IAAE protocol,
which authorizes this organization to have broad access to
the nuclear objects of Iran with the aim of inspection. If
to take the situation around Iran, practically everything
commenced with the issue on inspections. Should the aggravation
of relations be looked upon as a starting point of an overthrow
of the Islamic regime in Iran? Will military enforcement be
chosen as tactics?
The Iranian leadership accuses openly the United States of
the present tumults. Though officially the USA denies its
interference into the internal affairs of Iran the declaration
done by president Bush on this occasion doesn’t leave any
doubts that at a convenient moment America may take advantage
of the inner situation in order to realize its scheme on an
overthrow of the Islamic regime. As BBC analyst Sadek Seba
writes, on Sunday, June 15, Bush called the last demonstrations
in Tehran and other big cities of Iran as “positive”. George
Bush stated: “IT is the commencement of the people’s command,
its aspiration to see free Iran; and I think it to be a positive
step”. On June 14 the White House warned in its statement
the government of Iran about inadmissibility of suppressing
the demonstrations of protest, it demanded for respectful
attitude towards human rights.
Iran.ru reports the USA administration to have been the only
government in the world, which officially supported the protests
started in Iran five days ago.
Tumults and disorders seem to be the main thing Americans
are waiting for. This is that very circumstance which responds
to the essence of Washington statements on non-application
of military force in Iran. The tactics of warnings and menaces
should bring fruits. Judging by the changed situation in Iran
it is already bringing them. The tokens of split are witnessed
in Iran. Being conscious of the support coming from outside
Meijlis deputies move more resolute claims. Mehdi Karubi,
speaker of Iran Islamic Assembly Mejlis, invoked the leadership
of the country to present a complex precise account on the
recent events in the country to the people. On Tuesday before
the plenary meeting Karubi pronounced: “If we tell the people
openly, honestly and straightforwardly about these events
we shall reduce to a minimum abuses on the part of enemies”.
Pointing to the arrests which followed the notorious events
Mehdi Karubi remarked: “I call for detailed investigation
in order innocent people and those detained by chance were
discharged immediately. Such statements can’t be called otherwise
but evincements of democracy. The group of scientists and
higher schools professors who had joined students sent a venturesome
letter addressed to Ayatollah Homeini, a spiritual leader
of the republic - they demanded that the latter should give
up the idea of being God’s deputy on the Earth. In their letter
the representatives of Iranian intellectuals declared that
“the people have a full right to criticize its leadership
and remove it from power when the government deserves it”.
To say the truth, disorders in Iran occurred beforehand too,
but the situation was quite different. Having disappointed
in the present president of the country Muhammad Khotami who
was to initiate reforms in the country, the adversaries of
the regime may rely on outward forces. But for the time being
it is difficult to say whether there is connection between
participants of tumults with outward forces, or it is a recurrent
spontaneous manifestation of discontent with the policy of
the powers. But at any rate, one can’t negate a probability
of these actions being guided from abroad.
