PRESS IN KAZAKSTAN STRIVES TO BECOME DEMOCACY “WATCHDOG”

At the end of March the group of Tajik journalists represented by publishers and editors-in-chief of the country’s mass media visited Almaty within the frameworks of the programmed “Printed MM Management”. This programme was carried into effect on the joint initiate of “Internews”, AED (Academy for Development through Education) and the International Center of journalism being aimed at the study of the experience of Kazakstan printed MM on management and functioning. The delegation headed by “Internews” director deputy in Tajikistan Masrur Abdulloyev included editors-in-chief of the following editions: “Charkhi Gardun” - Akbari Sattor; “Tojikiston” - Sharifi Khamdampur; “Nirui Sukhan” - Mukhtor Boqizoda; “Asia-Plus” - Marat Mamadshoyev; “Sughd” - Abdumajidi Bobojohnyon; “Varorud” - IAA director Ilkhom Jamolov being a member of the delegation as well. In today’s issue he shares his impressions about the trip to the southern capital of Kazakstan with “Varorud”.

Almaty inhaled and exhaled spring, every morning nightingale’s singing sounded from out-of-doors
Before the trip yet we were warned that it was cold in Almaty and one had to take warm clothes. But as soon as our comfortable “Boeing” which brought us to our destination for an hour and a half started losing height the stewardess’ information bewildered the passengers. In Kazak, Russian and English she brought to our notice the temperature in the southern capital of Kazakstan being +14 0. Contrary to our expectations we found ourselves in the warm city attired in vernal garments. When passing through the customs-borderguard checkpoint our apprehensions were not affirmed either. Some of our fellows-travellers told that the passengers of Dushanbe-Almaty route, especially citizens of Tajikistan, would be consigned to earnest and thorough prequistion to the issue of narcotraffic enhancement, people mentioned the events with the Tajik diplomats in this country. But our group passed the control without especial troubles and complications. First of all, we remembered the faces of inspectors with white dressings protecting their respiratory organs, they were afraid of catching south-Asian non-typical anemia. In the airport we were cordially met by the representative of the International Center of journalists in Central Asia George Krimsky who is well acquainted with the journalistic circles of Tajikistan supporting close working ties with them. On the way to “Kazzhol” hotel he even demonstrated to what extent ceremony organizes by George and Kazakstan Internews deputy director Nurzhan Muhamedzhanova we were told that the programme of our sojourn sustained some changes. “Changes are not essential, they won’t influence the contents of the programme, you will get convinced of it yourselves”, -George Krimsky said.
M. Boqizoda and Sh. Khadampur with “Vremya-Print” general directress Yelena Burmistrova. White envy of Tajik journalists: “When shall we have independent publishing-houses in Tajikistan?”

When night came all of us were tired after the flight. On the first working day in the morning we were awoken by nightingales’ singing sounding from out-of-doors. Mukhtor Boqizoda, editor-in-chief of “Nuri Sukhan” newspaper, observant and cheerful man by nature, told quite earnestly that it was the song of nightingales that made him awake, he believed it was a token of benefit. This rich and thriving city offered us an exciting travel into the world of printed mass media.
