ANALITICS - GLANCE

WAR AGAINST IRAQ MAY BE WAR OF INTERESTS

Everything what takes place now in the Near East speaks about war unavoidable for Iraq. Concentration of military crafts of the USA and Great Britain, martial spirits of the leadership of these countries, economic interests of these two leading powers caring now more of raw stuffs security which must be a domineering factor in the contemporary world all this speaks in favor of military actions which are bound to be started against Iraq sooner or later. Namely this factor seems to become staff and staple of a new world division, a new law and order.
The problem does not lie in Iraq, or in its regime, or in its being a potential possessor of mass defeat weapon. Those who were interested in international politics remember perfectly well that Iraq possessed chemical weapon at the end of the 80s yet. The main thing is its rich petroleum deposits. The historic facts testify that in spite of liberation from the British yoke in 1930 in accordance with the international agreement signed on October 10 of that same year the priority in tapping oil reposits of the country were still preserved by foreign companies. On the premises of the same document the share of Iranian, English, American, French companies exceeded that one of local enterprises several times. To the end of the 50s - the precise date being June 14, 1958 - Iraq leader Abdukarim Kasim who was at the head in that period annulled the agreements with the foreign companies of Great Britain historically enjoying military presence in the Near East, in Iraq, in particular, one managed to tear away a part of Iraq territory and achieve the promulgation of the new state in the region called Kuwait. It happened on July 19, 1961. Basra province was subordinated to Kuwait. One of the mighty powers of the world - that of Great Britain - managed to retain control over basic oil deposits from which almost the half of all petroleum produced in Iraq was extracted. Sea entrance was blocked for Iraq that permitted to dictate prices for this important strategic raw stuff. These purposes were realized by Great Britain through the sheikh of Kuwait who was under its immediate subordination.
Before the beginning of the operation "Storm in the Desert" "New York Times" wrote that the sheikh of Kuwait didn't follow the limit established by OPEC extracting oil in great amounts. It eventuated in price reduction for a barrel from 18 dollars to 11. for Iraq even 1 dollar of reduced price entailed 1 billion loss a year. The support of Kuwait by the Western countries caused the damage in the size of 14 billion dollars for Iraq in the span of February-August 1990. It was reported by French "Figaro" in 1991. In a word, non-observance of OPEC requirements by Kuwait was an undeclared economic war against Iraq. This circumstance accounts for Iraq aggression against Kuwait. The crisis in the Persian Gulf and the capture of Kuwait by Iraq evoked protest and opposition on the part of the world community. In those years the army of Iraq was considered to be "the fourth great army of the world". At the moment of the operation "Storm in the Desert" this army was able to stand only 100 hours of onslaught on the part of the adversary. When carrying into effect "Storm in the Desert" which was lasting for 40 days over 100 thousand tons of bombs and shells were dropped upon Iraq from air; that exceeding the power of the atomic bomb applied in Hiroshima 8 times. As France-Press reported, 50 thousand people were killed in those days, but the representative of the German Bundeswehr Manfred Opel states that only in Baghdad 100 thousands were extirpated and all over Iraq the number of victims was equal to 300 thousand human lives. Apart from human victims the war poured into the genuine ecology holocaust. Over 450 million gallons of oil got into the Persian Gulf. The length of oil spot along the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia averaged 100 miles; the width being 40 miles. The thickness of oil-coverage reached 20 cm in some places. As witnesses assert, for a long time dark clouds were hanging over Iran and Iraq, black rains were going on. The war didn't spare many towns of Kuwait either. 740-750 oil chinks were burnt down, daily losses of the country were equal to 100 million dollars. "New York Times" reported that round-the-clock losses of oil in Kuwait were comparable with daily expenses of benzene in the USA. Into the bargain, as the newspaper ran, in future because of this ecology holocaust durability of population's life in the region will reduce. This war cost 61 billion dollars for American taxpayers; 54 billion were compensated by rich Arab sheikhs and Americ
a's allies presented by Japan and Germany.
Today the threat of war impends anew. In the region itself there continues the opposition between poor and well-to-do Arabic countries. The principal reason of this opposition is the access to natural resources and cooperation with the West on the part of some Arabic countries for the sake of their economic interests. The natural resources in the region are not divided equally between the Arabic countries. It is just due to this reason that the poor countries of the Near East declare about their supporting the policy of Iraq and Arab billionaires maintain American presence in the region. This is the quotation from Roge Garodi, French Professor of Politology: "The third world war has begun. This war, though quiet, is frightening. Children will perish together with parents, there will be millions of the wounded, millions of the unemployed. Destroyed bridges and hundreds of outfits, schools, and hospitals standing idle. Just those will be the effects of the undeclared war".
In the Persian Gulf Iraq is considered to be an influential state. Saddam's opposition keeps to the opinion that he wants to become Arabian Bismark, i.e. to unite the entire Arabic world in order to be its direct leader. His strivings to accrue military potential may be accounted for just by it. In the period of 1983-1985 Iraq acquired military technique costing 89 billion dollars. Today the effectives of the Iraq army constitute 180000 soldiers and officers. At its disposal there are over 600 modern military aircrafts and 600 tanks. And he is going to use all this military might for the achievement of his goals. If he managed to gain Kuwait oil then cooperating with Saudi Arabia Iraq would be able to take control over OPEC and deliver a great damage upon the economics of the USA. That is just one of the principal strategic plans of Saddam Hussein. Hence the opposition between the Iraq leader and America whose administration accuses Saddam Hussein of producing mass defeat weapon. Many analysts consider that military interference may entail unpredictable consequences, up to the third world war. If mankind starts this war it may confront the most colossal holocaust in the scales of the whose Universe.
